Job Description

Reports to: Mechanical Engineer – Plant Workshop

Department: Engineering

Job Grade# 11

Provide efficient and economical mechanical maintenance service for mobile equipments by carrying out tasks as defined in the SOPs adhering to the safety and Quality standards.

  • Responsible for Safety and Discipline in the workplace
  • Carry out Mechanical maintenance, fault finding and monitoring of the mobile equipments and other related equipment and carryout the asks assigned by Foreman and Supervisor
  • Ensure maximum operational availability of mobile equipment by diagnostic work and repair methods
  • Carry out duties independently when called out and report breakdowns and faults
  • Assume additional responsibility by mobile equipment maintenance in the absence or Foreman
  • Ensure that emergency work is followed up by reporting to Foreman
  • Ensure work practice conforms to safety regulations and procedures
  • Ensure that all preventive maintenance (Mechanical) is conducted as defined in the system
  • Attend breakdowns as reported by Staff & Equipment Control on immediate basis
  • Ensure accurate, up to date information is provided in the work order for input into the system
  • Ensure that is work order generated (in coordination with optimization team) for all mechanical work performed on mobile equipments
  • Submit correct information about start time and end time of maintenance activity
  • Obtain approval of supervisor/foreman before making purchase requisition and submitting to stores
  • Ensure tidiness and cleanliness of workshop facilities and all equipment for which his team is responsible
  • Submit routine inspection and monitoring reports as required
  • Record Mobile equipment allocation and utilization
  • Record Number and nature of accidents. Ensure safety principles are followed
  • Ensure economical, efficient, and productive use of the department’s equipment and manpower
  • Maintain constant communication with the Supervisors/Foreman to ensure effective mobile workshop and reefer operations
  • Responsible to maintain safety and discipline in the work area
  • Ensure compliance with Fatal Risk Standards
  • Ensure compliance with Safe Work Practices
  • Ensure compliance with HSE policy
  • Reporting accidents and ‘near misses’ in accordance with defined safety procedures 

 

Special Skills & Knowledge

Qualification Exp.

  • Experience in container in sea port and/ or heavy equipment environment
  • Mandatory: 2 to 3 years

Education

Mandatory: Diploma in mechanical engineering

  • Preferable experience in working on heavy equipment in ports, mining, steel industries
  • Detailed knowledge of a wide range of mechanical equipment, diesel engines, transmissions, pneumatic & hydraulic systems, brakes etc.
  • Conversant with technical/ parts manuals, and drawings
  • Fully conversant with safety procedures
